SoFriedDNN October 2015 Meeting Post-Game Wrap-Up

Last night we all gathered at Microsoft Charlotte for the monthly meeting. We had a good crowd on hand as well as online via GoToMeeting. We even had a “DNN Idiot” sign into the meeting and drop mass hysteria throughout the meeting. As with any meeting we have it’s great to connect with everyone, get caught up, and learn about the cool and innovative things everyone is working on.

Ryan Moore started the meeting off welcoming everyone then we transitioned to talking about the upcoming DNN 8 release. This rolled into conversations on both MVC & SPA modules development patterns and, of course, spas in general. Somehow Joe Brinkman’s name got brought up related to spas, but we tried to keep it within the context of module development!

We also discussed the DNN 8 Module Challenge where DNNCorp is dropping some serious loot on updating modules to the new development patterns. Several within our group are participating and several people in the GTM chat window said they were going to participate as well. From the energy and buzz that was evident, I think everyone is looking forward to the new development patterns, templates, and updated modules.

After the socializing, community updates, and module development discussions we had our featured speaker Johnny Gregory from http://www.Managed.com. Johnny is a Senior Technology Consultant at Managed.com and is very familiar with the landscape of hosting, CMS’, and technology in general. During Ryan’s introduction of Johnny he noted that Managed.com is the only company he knows that follows up support tickets with a call to ensure satisfaction with their services.

After we harassed Johnny with a few jokes he started into his interview. This session was not a direct presentation from Johnny, but rather an interview style presentation where Ryan asked questions and Johnny responded. Johnny talked about the brand conversion from PowerDNN to Managed.com and noted that it’s helping and growing their brand. The change has been a catalyst for growth for their company. During his talk he mentioned the DNN spam attacks and how, even as a hosting company, Managed.com worked to help provide solutions for stopping the spam registrations to their client’s sites. He even stressed that we need to always consider the audience when talking with clients. He said he tries to work with his team to ensure they’re not using acronyms and buzzwords that only exist in the technology field. I’ll admit that I did have a tough time paying attention as the jokes in the GoToMeeting chat window were happening a mile a minute!

So, since I missed some bits and pieces check out the video replay of Johnny’s interview below:
